Free Website Building
If your budget is tight and you want to make your own website for free, then you’ll need to utilise one or more of the free web design software packages that are available.
Actually you have two choices:
- Buy your own domain name and hosting (free hosting is available but not recommended) and host the free website yourself.
- Sign up for an account at one of the providers of free website building software, use a prefix to their domain, and have them host your website.
Option 2 is totally free, and especially recommended if you want to learn some elementary web design, and get a site online quickly and easily. For a beginner, I would especially recommend that you head over to www.blogger.com and follow their instructions. There are other free website building options available.
Option 1 is a more involved but ultimately better way to build your own websites as your site will be under your control rather than controlled by someone else. This point was recently illustrated when Yahoo announced that they were closing the free hosing service Geocities http://geocities.yahoo.com/
You’ll first need to sort out your own domain name and hosting and then choose a method for building your site. My recommendation is WordPress (hint – this site is built using WordPress) the basic structure of which is free.
